St. Augustine once said, 'The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page'. Blessed with a relatively nomadic upbringing, I have been fortunate enough to experience a few of those pages, having lived in France for over 10 years, worked in America and travelled around Europe, North Africa and South East Asia. My photography documents these journeys, sharing my experiences and the places and people I have come across. I seek to capture emotions that can be universally understood. Using digital processing, I mainly take a grab-and-shoot approach to my work. I choose not to use Photoshop®, to maintain the truest record as possible. Of course, viewing my work, this may seem quite contradiction...
Being colour blind, it is impossible for me represent the world around me in its true colours. Instead, my style of photography has developed to exaggerate the chromatics and contrasts of my subjects. I emphasise some colours whilst saturating others, picking out and isolating certain facets of my subjects.
By no means does my work dismiss colour, but renders it to a starker, bolder, braver level, focusing on achromatic and primary colours, as well as tints and shades. I hope that this approach allows the viewer to sympathise with the multiple ways that a subject can be interpreted, while interacting with colour to seek fresh, different meanings, as regards time, place and feeling.
